White ateronotus or black knife
White-ateronotus or black knife - the family of afteronotus. Originally from the ponds of the Amazon (South America).
A long velvet-black body without scales gradually tapers towards the tail, resembling a knife in shape. There is no fin on the back.
The anal fin extends over the entire length of the body, its graceful wave-like movements allow the fish, without changing the position of the body, to move in any direction - horizontally and vertically.
It grows in an aquarium up to 40 cm.
Predator, prefers live food - bloodworms, tubifex, etc. You can also give meat and dry food.
Maintenance and care
Large aquarium (from 400 l) with a powerful filter and aerator, a large number of shelters and thickets of plants. Weekly change of water. Temperature 24-28 °. Soil - sand or fine gravel. Afteronotus is a bottom fish of a nocturnal lifestyle, spends the day in shelters. It does not get along well with relatives, it is better to keep it in company with large and medium peaceful fish of other species. Sensitive to water.
Breeding is complex and requires compliance with many conditions for water quality. 2-3 females are planted on the male. After spawning, the male is left to take care of the eggs. When fry appear, the male is precipitated. The first feed is shallow zooplankton.
